In the spirit of unity geared towards contributing to the development of the Ashanti Kingdom, the Asanteman Association in various parts of the United States hold annual gatherings or dinner fundraisers to generate funds for laudable projects in the Kingdom.
One of such events was the Dinner Dance by the Asanteman Association of Washington DC which was held at the Springfield, Waterford in Virginia on Saturday October 3rd.
The event began with Daasebre Kwaku Boateng and Nana Ama Akyaa the Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa of the Washington Metro Area respectively making a grand royal entrances dancing to the tune of fontomfrom drums. They were joined by a retinue of chiefs and elders in the Washington Metro Area. After they took their seats the presence of the Asantefuohene of Columbus, Ohio was announced. The Chief strolled in majestically with his entourage from Ohio and danced to the admiration of the gathering.
After Prayers were said the linguist of the night poured libation to the ancestors and asked for the blessing of a successful event.
Nana Kwasi Agyeman the immediate past President of the Asanteman Association who chaired the event admonished the members of the association to unite and do their best to contribute their quota toward the growth of the association. He touted the achievements of the association and commended the leadership for sustaining the gains this far. At the end of his speech Nana Kwasi Agyeman made a bountiful contribution to the Association.
A cultural dance display by various dancers’ added color to the event as the chiefs engaged in a marathon traditional adowa dance.
Group Nduom who were one of the sponsors of the event were given the opportunity to address the gathering and introduce various services the company offers for the benefit of Ghanaians in the diaspora which includes life insurance for families in Ghana, Free foreign accounts, event planning, hospitality management and many others.
DJ Vee Jay, one of Ghana’s finest DJ’s in the Washington Metro area kept the event alive with various highlife and hiplife songs and the gathering were kept on their feet for hours dancing and socializing with each other till the curtain was drawn for the end of the event.
